Tlaloc Cosplay!

I went to a fancy dress Halloween party last night in memory of my old school friend Liam, who died tragically of meningitis when he was just 14 - any money spent on the tickets went charitably to the Meningitis trust to raise money for research into the illness. The whole event is such a lovely thing to hold, and his parents donate so much to charity every year - they are so strong about the loss of their boy and are doing something so positive about it!

I decided that this year I would dress up as the Aztec rain god Tlaloc! Just over a week ago I made the mask out of a plastic craft mask bought cheaply at a shop up in town, moulded a few newspaper shapes and pasted them onto the mask with a substance called mod-rock! Then I painted it up and made the headdress... bought a few bits and pieces from second hand shops around town (you can find some really unusual and fun things in those, and it goes to charity!) and I purchased a black wig online as my real hair colour is sort of blonde... and slightly too short...! It felt so darn funny buying a dress and jewellery for a costume that would be that of a man, when I am female myself! I am so very proud of this costume that I managed to rack up cheaply with a splash of creativity! X3

The party was  hilarious – nobody knew who I was under all that and I was pointed to the men’s toilets by a man sitting at a table when they saw that I was going into the ladies to adjust the wig PFFFF!!! The two policemen there adored my costume and called me over, telling me that first of all I needed to urgently see the orthodontist, and second of all that I was to be arrested for possession of illegal substances, namely blood, of which I had a little candy blood bag hanging around my neck for a comic touch! As I announced that they have no rights to arrest the Aztec rain god, one of them said that he would let me go so long as I didn’t have him sacrificed or drink his own blood, to which I replied that I was only after the sweet blood of innocent little children. The children at the party were in fact at the perfect age of Tlaloc’s feasting preference, and without even realising this, they had already turned it into a game that I should chase them and capture them while I was not dancing like an idiot with the guys there!

I just decided to spruce this picture up a little bit! I removed the background and drew a few little codex images as I saw fit – also, I am reading the Codex Borgia... to embrace Tlaloc’s sweet geekiness!
